See all- Virtual: Employment & Autism - Non-Traditional WorkLink visible for attendees
Join us on Thursday, September 19th at 7:00PM for our employment series! The topic of the day: Non Traditional Work.
Non-traditional employment can include part time work, contract, freelance, gig work, seasonal and temp positions. We’ll go over our experiences and the issues that may arise, including finances, benefits, health insurance, etc. For those considering leaving a full-time job to pursue a special interest, we’ll go over how to make your special interest your job.
At 7 we’ll start with our intros, and then get into our discussion, guided by some readings/resources and questions. We’ll also go over future topics in the series.
This event will be in our "Meetup Stage" Channel on Discord.
***
Our events are for Autistic adults (18+) (diagnosed or self-diagnosed) and are not open to any neurotypical (not Autistic) people.
Our virtual meetups and our Discord server are restricted to those in the Tri-State (NY, CT, and NJ) area. If you need help with discord, please see our guide! If you’re a new member, please join our discord at least 15 min prior to the event to go through our gatekeeping channel and adjust your audio settings!

LINK TO JOIN DISCORD - (IN-PERSON) Independent Living WorkshopPier 57, New York, NY
This is a Hybrid Event, you can attend either in-person or online. This event page is for registering IN-PERSON. If you want to attend online, please RSVP at the other event page.
“Independent Living is a philosophy and a movement of people with disabilities who work for self-determination, equal opportunities and self-respect. Independent living/living independently means that individuals with disabilities are provided with all necessary means to enable them to exercise choice and control over their lives and make all decisions concerning their lives.” Source
Many of us struggle with finding work or being financially independent without reliance on family. Many struggle with everyday tasks like taking the train or getting groceries due to sensory issues and executive function issues. Some of us need information about food access, health care, and government assistance. And finding affordable/accommodating housing in this city can be nearly impossible.
Join us on September 21st at 12:00pm to talk about Independent Living. We’ll come together to share our experiences, and discover options and resources to help us achieve this goal of Independent Living.
Pre-Submitted Questions:
We want to know what you’d like to cover during the event! These questions can pertain to any independent living topics, including housing, jobs, accommodations, food access, health care, disability and government assistance, etc. Please submit your questions in advance here:
